Resume Writing Tips for Foreign Companies

Necessity

Is a resume important for employment in a foreign company? There are several cases where this is not entirely important:

If you have outstanding merits. For example, you are the author of a popular opensource project.
If you are recommended from within the company - in many cases a recommendation is more important than a resume.

In other cases, the quality of compiling a resume significantly increases the chances of finding a job.
Format

Some applicants, trying to stand out and make the resume original, use home-made one-page sites, PowerPoint presentations, desktop and even mobile applications.

In most cases, this simply complicates the processing of the resume and reduces the chances of receiving an invitation to an interview. Similar techniques can be used as an addition.

When choosing a resume format, attention should be paid to several factors:

The file should open on most devices - both dextop and mobile.
The file should display the same on all devices.
    The file must support formatting.
The file should be conveniently transferred to another system.

Thus, we do not fit:

TXT - due to lack of formatting.
ODF, ODT and others due to the potential lack of programs to open.
    Picture due to copying difficulties.
PowerPoint, Excel, and other non-standard approaches are also poor candidates for use.

PDF may be a good candidate - perhaps it makes sense to also attach the DOC option as an add-on.

In addition, it is recommended to give the files a meaningful name - for example, IvanPetrovFrontend.pdf is better than Document (12) .doc
Introduction

Or, as it is sometimes called, Cover letter is a small annotation that is inserted into the body of the letter. It should be clear from it what tasks you can solve, what key technologies you can use, if this is your specialization. No more than two paragraphs of the text - briefly and to the point.

But do not write:

How do you like this company.
About your personal achievements that are not related to work.
    About marital status.
Education, visa status and so on.

Headline

The title should include:

    Name, date of birth, languages.
    A photo.
    Location and current time zone.
    Full list of contacts.

The title should not be:

    Salary Expectations.
    Home address.
    Age in years.

Everything is simple here - all data should be well readable and not cause questions.

Most foreign companies profess the principle of “Equal opportunity employment” - that is, they cannot refuse you on the basis of photos or age. However, for most HRs, age should fall within certain boundaries; having a photo will help visually distinguish your resume from others and make it more personal - especially after a Skype interview.
Education

The biggest mistake is listing the list of educational institutions with years of training.

This information is absolutely useless for an overseas HR who cannot say what mehmat and other terrible things are. It is best to go to the university’s website and see the English version of the name.

In addition, you need to indicate the highest degree that you managed to get in terms of the Bologna system.

If you have a master’s degree, in most cases you can simply specify a master degree. Some “happy” specialists have some difficulties. This degree does not exist in terms of the Bologna system, so a diploma will have to be subject to an assessment specific to each individual country - a similar diploma can be regarded both as a bachelor and a master, depending on the rules and conditions of the country, as well as on the number of hours of study.

If you do not have a diploma of higher education, remember - it is never too late to study. Nowadays, for example, getting a bachelor's degree in Computer Science can be done remotely and inexpensively.
