Patrolmen can fine the driver for violating traffic rules, check documents with suspicious persons, detain and escort him to the station for interrogation, but they cannot perform the functions of an investigation.

Police are also required to provide first aid and “police care” - for children under 16 years of age who have been left unattended by their parents, for people with obvious psychological problems or who are intoxicated, which are dangerous for others or themselves.

During the reorganization, the number of police officers was reduced from 376 to 300 per 100 thousand of the population according to UN standards. Police officers will work under contract for two or four years.
3. Submission of the new police changed

The influence of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the police has been reduced, and now the head of the police can be appointed and dismissed by the Verkhovna Rada on the proposal of the Prime Minister. Local communities (district councils) also gain influence over the local police.
